I’m so pleased to add the Mesothelioma Justice Network to our list of resources.

What is Mesothelioma? According to Mesothelioma.com, it’s “is a rare, aggressive form of cancer that develops in the linings of the lungs, abdomen or heart. Exposure to asbestos is the only known cause of malignant mesothelioma.”

Here are a few other facts about mesothelioma, courtesy of the Mesothelioma Justice Network’s website:

• The average life expectancy for someone with mesothelioma is 12-21 months.
• Aggressive treatments like surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation may help slow disease progression and extend a patient’s life expectancy.
• Mesothelioma is often misdiagnosed because it shares symptoms with other, more common diseases.
• It can take up to 20-50 years to develop

But the fact that really made me sit up and take notice is this: Mesothelioma has no cure. Treatment can extend a patient’s life but — and let me say this again — there is no cure.

According to the Mesothelioma Justice Network’s website, they fight  for those who’ve been exposed to asbestos and contracted mesothelioma due to the actions of “negligent asbestos companies.”
